The agreement also provides for a transitional period, which will last until 31 December 2020 and can be extended by mutual agreement. During the transitional period, EU legislation will continue to apply to the UK (including participation in the European Economic Area, the internal market and the customs union) and the UK will continue to contribute to the EU budget, but the UK will not be represented in EU decision-making bodies. The transition period will give businesses time to adapt to the new situation and the new era, so that the British and European governments can negotiate a new trade agreement between the EU and the UK. [17] “If the British authorities violate or threaten to violate the withdrawal agreement by UK internal market law in its current form or otherwise, the European Parliament will not in any way ratify an EU-UK agreement,” the presidents of the European Parliament`s political groups and members of its British coordination group said in a joint statement. On 15 November 2018, the day after the agreement and the support of the British government were presented, several members of the government resigned, including Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for leaving the European Union. [28] The transitional period ends in accordance with the withdrawal agreement. The EU and the UK reach an interim agreement. It includes a transition period until 31 December 2020, during which all EU rules will continue to apply. It also covers the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The withdrawal agreement provides for a transitional period until 31 December 2020, during which time the UK will remain in the internal market, to ensure the smooth flow of trade until a long-term relationship is concluded. If no agreement is reached by then, the UK will leave the single market without a trade deal on 1 January 2021. The withdrawal agreement is closely linked to a non-binding political declaration on future relations between the EU and the UK. On 22 October, the British Parliament agreed to review the Brexit Act. But she decided it took longer than the British Prime Minister had proposed. This means that it is no longer possible to withdraw with an agreement on the planned date of Brexit, 31 October. The Brexit deal will not come into force until the Brexit law is passed by the British Parliament. The British Parliament approved the draft agreement by adopting on 23 January 2020 the implementing laws (the 2020 Withdrawal Agreement Act) of the European Union (withdrawal agreement). Following the signing of the agreement, the UK Government adopted and tabled the UK`s ratification instrument on 29 January 2020. [7] The agreement was ratified by the Council of the European Union on 30 January 2020, after approval by the European Parliament on 29 January 2020. The UK`s withdrawal from the EU came into force on 31 January 2020 at 11 .m GMT, when the withdrawal agreement came into force in accordance with Article 185.

The other 27 EU member states are ready to authorise the Report in the UK (the UK is due to leave the EU on 29 March 2019). If the UK Parliament approves the withdrawal agreement by 29 March, Brexit will be delayed until 22 May to allow time to pass the necessary legislation.
